Dr. Shelby Ash (she/her)

If you find yourself feeling lost, wrestling with trust issues, unsatisfied with the direction of your life, or simply unsure about what you truly want, you've come to the right place. I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are navigating these complex challenges. I also run a group perfect for people struggling with relationship patterns.

My approach is supportive and direct. I use a psychodynamic approach that focuses on intersubjectivity. This means we will be looking at your hidden thoughts and feeling patterns that were influenced by past events and relationships. We’ll consider how they impact you in the present and explore how these thoughts and feelings come up during our therapy sessions.

By deepening your self-understanding, I believe that you will gain the capacity to cultivate self-compassion and a sense of agency in your life.

I value and welcome issues related to identity and cultural challenges. I have experience working with members of the LGBTQIA community, a broad range of ethnic and racial identities, as well as age related issues.

Before joining Atwater Village Therapy, I trained at The Saturday Center for Psychotherapy. I spent several years working at in-patient treatment facilities helping individuals stabilize their mental health and build healthy and balanced lives. I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Antioch, Santa Barbara and completed my master’s at Antioch, Los Angeles where I specialized in depth psychology. I am being supervised by Dr. Liz Gustafson (PSY29510) as a psychological associate (PSB94027235) while I complete California requirements to become a clinical psychologist.
